3 Books Needed Your First Year Sober

books for sobriety
Want to know the BEST books you need your first year sober? Below are the 3 top books you need your first year sober.

This is a great book to read when you want to escape. It is a fiction book that unfolds wonderfully about a boy bravely living out his life’s purpose. He faces obstacles, setbacks, and many challenges, but he presses forward. Anyone in recovery or struggling to overcome an addiction can relate to his struggle and perseverance to keep pushing forward. He wants to quit his journey, and almost does, but instead of going back to his familiar, old life, he takes the road less traveled and didn’t leave before the miracle. The Alchemist is my top book for your first year sober.
THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT BOOKS YOU NEED YOUR FIRST YEAR SOBER

2. Alcoholics Anonymous

The ”Big Book” is a phenomenal book. It’s broken into two sections for a simplified read. The first part, is all about the 12 step program and how to work the steps laid out in AA. The next part is personal stories from AA members about their struggles and how they recovered. The book and program are Spiritual by nature and there is a lot of talk about God, Spirit of the Universe, and Higher Power. It’s easy to relate to the drunk tales and the despair, and you can gain hope from their recovery. It was like hearing a speaker at a meeting. The book was written in 1936 and some of the language reflects such, but the 12 Steps in this program are the original and helped millions of people get sober, along with provide a base for every other 12 Step group which it has remained unchanged. I highly recommend reading this your first year sober, even if you do not attend AA.
Is the healing of addiction using the Buddhist Principles. Recovery Dharma, Refuge Recovery, Buddhist Recovery Network are all great alternatives to those who couldn’t relate in AA or NA. The spiritual aspect and focus on a God or Higher Power is not so heavily focus as it is with the original 12 step programs.. The focus is on the Buddha’s teaching of the 4 Noble Truths, and working the 8 Fold Path to heal addiction. Each chapter has “Questions for Inquiry” section at the end which can be done alone, with a Wise Friend, a Dharma buddy, or Sponsor.

An additional read is 3 weeks to freedom. The reason I wrote this book was for women trying to get their life back on track. This was not written for women in recovery, but I believe we are all recovering from something. My book, 3 weeks to freedom, Kick-start yiur kick ass life in 21 days.
is a simple guide for women to get their lives back on track if you have got off course, or are simply looking for a change. It is a quick and easy read with practical advice that you can put to work immediately. There is nothing more I dislike than a 500 page self help book! If I need help, and I’m looking for resources, then I need it NOW. It’s not specific to drinking so It can be under universally, but it’s a perfect book for your first year sober.
